BILLS THAT PROMOTE NATURAL GAS AS A TRANSPORTATION FUEL INTRODUCED

This week, Reps. Lee Terry (R-NE) and Sam Graves (R-MO) introduced three legislative proposals for the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel in heavy duty trucks. The three bills would direct the Secretary of Transportation to establish a task force–to include multiple government agencies and private sector partners–to (1) identify opportunities to transition from diesel fuel to natural gas and to determine what a large scale industry switch to the fuel would do to the Highway Trust Fund (H.R. 3937), (2) designate natural gas fueling corridors for long haul truck traffic (H.R. 3938) and (3) allow an exemption for the current truck weight limit solely for the purpose of the added weight of a natural gas tank (H.R. 3940). The legislation can be accessed here by searching for H.R. 3937, H.R. 3938 or H.R. 3940 (only one bill at the time). NGVAmerica commends Reps. Terry and Graves for their efforts and looks forward to continue working with them.
