WORLD’S FIRST LNG-FUELED CARRIER BEGINS TESTING

The world’s first LNG-fueled carrier ship has begun its maiden test voyage from a port city in eastern China. The 5,000 deadweight tonnage cargo vessel is one of two ships ordered by Norwegian logistics and shipping company Nor Lines AS. The ship was designed by Rolls-Royce Maritime and is being constructed by ship builder Tsuji Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Shipyard. Rolls-Royce gas engines already meet (International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Tier III requirements on NOx, SOx and CO2 emissions, which will come into force in 2016. The first vessel should be delivered in June, while it is still unclear when the second vessel will be completed.
