Texas Light Duty Vehicle Rebate Opens Up to $5,000 for CNG Vehicles

The Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program (LDPLIP) will provide rebate incentives statewide to persons who purchase or lease an eligible new light-duty motor vehicle powered by CNG, propane (LPG), or hydrogen fuel cells or other electric drives.  Only vehicles purchased in Texas are eligible for the incentive.

CNG vehicles qualify for a rebate of $5,000 in case of new purchases or longer-term leases.  Leases that are 2 – 3 years in duration qualify for $3,330, and 1 – 2 year lease qualifies for $1,665.  Converted vehicles qualify if converted within 500 miles of operation after first sale.  New A CNG light duty vehicle is eligible if it has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds or less.  Vehicles classified by the EPA as a “Medium-Duty Passenger Vehicle” or a “Class 2b Heavy-Duty Vehicle” with a GVWR up to and including 10,000 pounds and operating on CNG also are included.

A total of $7.7 million is available for all light-duty vehicle grants.  However, the program includes a limit of 1,000 rebates to be made available for CNG and LPG grants.  The rebates are available until May 31, 2019 but only if funds remain.
