Alabama Airport Breaks Ground on New CNG Fueling Station

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) in Alabama has broken ground on a new CNG station. The natural gas station will be used by the Birmingham Airport Authority’s vehicles that re being converted to run on environmentally-friendly CNG.

Under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Voluntary Airport Low Emissions (VALE) Program, the Birmingham Airport Authority was awarded a grant to lower emissions in the community by building a natural gas station and replacing their current diesel shuttle bus fleet and one maintenance vehicle with others that run on CNG.

The CNG station will be one of three in the Birmingham area. This centrally located station will provide Birmingham and surrounding communities easy access to the cleaner-burning fuel. The project is estimated to cost $2.5 million.
