NGVAmerica Statement on Reintroduction of the Waterway LNG Parity Act

WASHINGTON – Dan Gage, President of NGVAmerica, released the following statement in regard to the reintroduction of the Waterway LNG Parity Act by U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Todd Young (R-IN) earlier today:

“We applaud this extremely important legislation as we continue to promote clean fuel alternatives in our country. LNG is domestic, clean, and abundant, ensuring that marine operators have decades of affordable fuel that produces near-zero sulfur oxide emissions and significantly reduces particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.

“We hope this legislation passes through the Senate and House so we can work toward the climate goals that remain a priority in Congress and around the country.”

Aaron Johnson, CEO of Kinetrex Energy, an NGVAmerica member, offered his support of this critical legislation.

“LNG is the cleanest and most economic marine fuel and will play an increasing role in domestic marine transportation. As it currently stands, the tax code discourages the use of LNG while supporting other forms of energy in the maritime industry. Kinetrex Energy supports the Waterway LNG Parity Act of 2019.  Its passage will increase the use of LNG in marine transportation and reduce the use of dirtier, more expensive fuels.”
